Tina's Life as She Knows It

Monday, August 29, 2005

I just had a very hard weekend. Most the time a weekend should be full of rejuvenate, rest, and relaxation. That is not what I went through the past 5 days. My grandmother, Vesta Bentley passed away. She has been sick for a long time but it is still a shock to lose a family member. I knew for almost a week that she had passed away but it wasn't until I actually got to the funeral on Thursday and saw her there that it finally struck me. I know most people's grandparents aren't 88 when they are in their early 20's, but that is what I had. Then the following Saturday all parts of the family in the will (9 in all) came to the house so start tagging things for everyone to receive. It was amazing some of the things we found in the house. A German Bible printed in 1795, original teacher spellers and grammar book from the 1800's, my great-grandfather Saylor Brown's 3rd grade report card from 1901, my grandmothers graduation dress with diploma from 1934, letters my grandfather had written my grandmother right after high school 1934-1935 (which is even stranger b/c they later marry other people, divorce and finally marry eachother), pictures from the grandpa's trip to India during World War II, and the list goes on. Granted none of this stuff has seen the light of day in at least 40 years it was awesome to see what was kept through the years. Yes, we Bentley's like to keep things but now you see it is all for a reason. The going through of things is a huge process so I will be going to Boise every weekend this month at least... Eventually my parents are going to move into the house, so it will again be grandma and grandpa Bentley's house, just the next generation.

Now I am back at work, not really wanting to be here, but needing to be here. Its not as if I don't like my job, it is that I would feel more helpful elsewhere. This is going to be a tough time for me and I know it. I guess I also had more friends in this area to take time out to go see so that I could get away a little too. Oh well, evetually things will get back to normal with me, hopefully.

New life

Ok, so I know its been a while. Well all summer really...

Today was the second day of school. And for those of you who haven't heard, I LOVE MY NEW JOB! Everyone here is just amazing, the administrator is wonderful, the other teachers are so much fun to be around. We even hang out after school and on the weekends! It is this total polar opposite from last year. My class is really small this year, I have 8 maybe 9 students. I have one that hasn't come yet and I'm not sure if he is or not. But so far things are going well. They are pretty well behaved, for 10 and 11 year old boys. (I only have 2 girls.) My classroom is in the basement, which has its bonuses but the bad thing is the 3/4th grade class is directly above mine and Jon, the teacher, seems to think it is really funny to have all his students jump up and down. Basically it creates an earthquake like experience for us "down under".

The sad thing is that my grandma passed away last Friday night. My parents called to let me know, so tomorrow morning I am driving over to Boise to help with funeral stuff. The funeral is on Thursday morning. It wasn't a shock that we lost her, but I really haven't had any time to myself to take it all in. Yvonne, my boss has been super great and told me to take as much time as I needed to be with my family. Like I said, everyone here is great.

I ma excited to go home so I can see the baby. I talked to my sister on Sunday and things seem to be going well for her. It's just so sad to see them try to deal with having their first born in the NICU. She and Dave were up for my installation on Sunday and it was sad to watch them look at another baby, you can tell they just want theirs to be home and healthy. I guess it will happen eventually, its just a long time to get there.

I will try and be better at posting, but seriously, this summer was insane for me...Between moving, the baby, my grandma, new school, new grade...I've been busy.
